New York, New York, a city so popular, there’s a song (or two) dedicated to it! It’s no surprise considering the Big Apple is one of the major commercial, economic and cultural hubs in the world and is the most populous city in the US. But, did you know that over a fifth of the entire country’s visitors make sure to visit the city of five boroughs?

Ranking as the holiday season’s number one traveler destination, New York reclaimed its throne at the top of the travel market. Next year, it predicts a footfall of 57 million tourists, with around 20% being business travelers. Maybe because global mobility is made easy here - New York is the most connected US city, linked with 147 international destinations.

But aside from a large airport, what else does the reigning top business destination of four consecutive years have to offer?

Five ways New York has made itself a top business destination

1.It was way ahead of the curve with the ‘bleisure’ trend. This way of traveling, mixing business trips with leisure time, has risen to popularity amid digital nomadism and remote working trends. Now over half (60%) of global business trips turn into bleisure trips.

Shown to boost productivity, employers have allowed flexibility in how and where employees work, meaning a higher demand for meeting spaces and quiet, inspiring environments. Even before the changing travel scene, New York was packed with trendy coffee shops perfect for business travelers and remote workers.

There’s also no shortage of leisure attractions, so whether your guest is a history buff or has a weakness for musicals, it’s the perfect place for stealing an evening out.

2.Money, money, money… It’s the financial center of the world. Where there’s money, there’s business. As the top destination for those working in banking, finance, and technology, it’s buzzing with corporate networking possibilities.

If you’re looking to relocate, New York is a perfect spot to set down roots for a successful business. This may be why it attracts both domestic and international business travelers. New York State reports show 80% of its business travelers are from within the US.

According to Business Insider, more languages are spoken in Queens than anywhere else in the world, making New York even more attractive for relocation.

3.The city is prepared for the overnight and extended stay corporate traveler, with plenty of employee housing. Designated booking platforms can help you find a home away from home to ensure employee wellness is looked after. We’ve listed some of our favorite employee housing recommendations below:

In Manhattan, the 1920s historical landmark, The Beekman Tower caters to both short-term and extended stays. Rooms are equipped with home-like facilities, kitchens, and spacious living areas, plus they have stay well rooms and accessible accommodation. An award-winning and avant-garde glass building, The Residences at W, based in the heart of the Financial District, is well suited to the busy corporate lifestyle with modern meeting rooms and a fitness center.

4.This may come as a surprise, but New York is quickly becoming one of the most sustainable cities in the world, with clear eco-goals and measures in place to decrease environmental impact, such as protecting the water supply and creating urban gardens.

Realizing guest demand for sustainability, it has upgraded the airport service with smart city tech to provide a better guest experience whilst being resource-efficient.

5.Tech is also in demand, especially from those in the technology industry who are the highest sector of bleisure travelers. Hospitality technology is expected every step of the way from booking platforms to employee housing, as it enables a smooth relocation or business trip.

New York is no stranger to tech or innovation. Many Fortune 500, multinational, and private sector jobs with foreign companies are headquartered in the city. Silicon Alley in southern Manhattan’s Flatiron district is home to a broad spectrum of high technology companies, including start-ups, which are claiming more and more of the city’s economy.

Why New York is a tourist hot spot

The city of many names has captivated the hearts of travelers for years. But how? It has iconic, globally known locations, full of history and creativity, and has made its way onto many of our travel bucket list destinations. To name a few sight-seeing locations, there’s Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building, The Met, Broadway, the Statue of Liberty, the Museum of Natural History and so much more.

And then there’s the food! The food scene caters to every taste, from classic New York bagels to French cuisine, and even the “real Little Italy” in The Bronx. So, if your extended stay employees get bored of cooking healthy meals in their kitchen-equipped apartment, they can treat themselves to any kind of dining they fancy.
